Welcome & Call to Order

The meeting was called to order by 6:08 pm by Committee Chair Twitty-Carmon. She introduced a new committee member, Dr. Raymond Mooring, parent. She also introduced Attorney Bryan, board counsel.

There were no persons signed up for public comment.

Approval of Agenda

So that there is agreement between committee members on the agenda, and the amount of time spent on the meeting, the board shall vote to approve an agenda for the meeting. To the best of its ability, it will follow that agenda, and allow for the chair to move the board through the agenda as specified.

Academic Work Session

• District comparison of FY 23 GMAS (Released)
• IPA out scored:
•  The state and district in four out of six grades in ELA
• The state and district in 8th grade math.
• Fifth and eighth grade Physical Science saw low performance but will not be offered in the current school year.
• Fifth grade saw a significant decline in Math.
• Teachers have received professional development during the summer with coaching for the current year.
• Student Leadership Network Affiliate contract
• The academic committee will review the proposed contract between Student Leadership Network and Ivy Preparatory Academy. Ivy would be the first elementary school in this network. This organization supports Young Women’s Leadership Schools through a network of high performing all-girls’ public schools. SLN would provide: professional development, membership, national team support, SEL resources (TYWLS model). The committee will provide any questions to Chairwoman Twitty-Carmon by Aug 14, 2023.
• SCSC Monitoring Visit Item Review (checklist)
• As the SCSC review approaches, the academic committee will review the school website using the checklist provided by the SCSC. Any discrepancies should be reported to Chairwoman Twitty-Carmon by Aug 14, 2023.
• Enrollment updates
• The budget is based on 447 enrolled and 452 are currently enrolled. Every student on the waitlist was admitted with the exception of first grade (7 students). There are five teacher openings,  two paraprofessionals (KG and SWD) and one Math coach as well. The YMCA administered 475 bookbags and every student was able to receive a bag. Ten staff members were trained for diabetes medication administration and seizure training. 
• Back to School Updates
• Committee members are to review the following policies: Cell Phone, School Ceremonies and Observances, Academic Integrity. Any changes or updates should be sent to Chairwoman Twitty-Carmon by Aug 14, 2023 in preparation for the Governing Board Meeting on Aug 22, 2023.
