Chair Cassidy opened the meeting with introductory remarks and a discussion of the agenda.
Executive Director Kelbaugh provided the following updates:
_ TMS held its first open house earlier in the day.
_ Student recruitment committee will soon be sending postcard mailers targeted to socioeconomically diverse households in our priority attendance zone to help aid our efforts to recruit a diverse student body this year. Kelbaugh reported these mailers were previously successful and funds were dedicated to do this targeted outreach again.
_ Kelbaugh will be meeting with Board member Gibson to discuss an outreach plan to preschools in our community to build partnerships and provide crucial support for rising kindergarteners and their families.
Chair Cassidy led a discussion about various DEI projects in the works: Noted the email communication had been sent to families as part of the weekly newsletter highlighting recent work, including the equity analysis conducted in partnership with the Georgia Conservancy, the committee's diversity tracker and an update to the discussion surrounding TMS's mission statement. Opportunities for future communications were discussed, highlighting the student teacher program and our work around restorative practices.
Cassidy led a discussion around the October update to the diversity tracker as compiled by Kelbaugh and Cassidy. The committee offered feedback, suggested revisions. The tracker to be presented to the Board at its next meeting.
