Ms. Louizi wanted to celebrate the staff members who had completed their one year anniversary and are moving on to the 2019-2020 school year. Ms. Walker, Ms. Jackson, Mr.Jackson and Mr. Lee are all returning for the new school year.
Congratulations to them all and welcome back for the new school year. We want to thank them for their dedication and commitment to our students and the SLAM Vision during the 2018-2019 school year.
The School Wide plan was approved by the Title I department.
We will do early testing of all of students to ensure that we identify who qualifies for the Early Intervention Program. Those that do will receive instruction from our new Curriculum Specialist.
We are short of 3 teachers, 2 for kindergarten and 1 for 4th grade. If we have not hired these teachers by the start of school, the back up plan is to have the Curriculum Specialist to teach 4th grade and Para's for the kindergarten classes.
We are also anticipating an increase in students with disabilities and need a strong Special Education teacher to assist in that area. We have been unable to find a Special Education teacher. We are working with our speech and language vendor to help us find someone. There is appears to be a shortage of teachers especially in the field of Special Education.
Projected enrollment is:
K, confirmed for a total of 31 students
1, 3 confirmed for a total of 24
2nd, 3 confirmed for a total of 24
3rd, 9 confirmed for a total of 23 (about to have a waiting list)
4th, 6 confirmed for a total of 25 (we have a waiting list)
We are continuing to recruit and get the word out about the SLAM model.
@Karen Womack are we doing the phone calls to parents requesting that they bring school documents in. Gerda replied that the school is making phone calls every day to parents who have missing enrollment documents.
Will be held on September 5th. The documents are due by August 12th. Testing Calendar and Financial Policies and Procedures have already been submitted. August 7th is our internal deadline to have all documents sent to Gerda.
The Finance department was in the midst of closing the books for the 2018-2019 school year. There were no updated financial reports to review.
SLAM has been granted a Facility Grant in the amount of $40,476.19. This grant was made possible by the amendment of the Charter Schools Act, HB 430 that would allow charter school facilities more comparable to facility funding for traditional public schools in the state.
Open House is August 8.
First Day of School is August 12
