School Leader Report

Highlights:

Atlanta Police department zone 1 came to visit SLAM by invitation of Mrs. McLaughlin. She took them on a tour of the school. They also support M Magnes Jones as well and promised to reach out to us when there are issues going on int he area. They also informed us that there are cameras around the school that are being mointered.

Pastries for Parents did not go as well as we would have liked. We will re offer it again.

The Charter Expo was an excellent opportunity to market our school. It was very well attended and parents were actually looking for SLAM. We had 5 parents who signed up through Lotterease.

We started our first Fundraiser that we have been trying to start since the first of the year.

PBIS School Visit from Mr. Spellman. I was not in the meeting because I was in class. It was an opportuity that he wanted to offer training in PBIS.

Midyear diagnostic in iReady. The information provided is a great showing of the academic gains that our students are making. Many students who are on the list are making academic gains. We still have a ways to go in math.

Today we started a mock Georgia Practice assessment so that our students will have an idea of what the testing process will look like. School wide testing plan is underway. Ms. Holton needed some additional time to work on this. I will present it hopefully at the next board meeting.

Lourdes also visited and unfortunately her assessment of the visit was not the same as what the teachers said.

Many of the teachers were not happy with the report that she sent. We are working hard and I would

@Eboni Chillis are you having conversations with your staff about the data. The data is the data and how it will impact our overall results.

When they go back into the classroom

@Daniel McKayhan could you possibly give us a date when you can have the schoolwide testing plan? Toi said that she thinks she can have the plan to the Board by Friday.

Title I and Title IV Funding purchases

USA Test Prep

Reflex Math specified for our Targeted Assisted Students

Received our classroom libraries this week (Accelerated Reader

Wonder Works test books an affiliate of our Reading Wonders program that will help our lower performance students.

Student Services Lotterease is open for new applicants

One new hire, Ms Lovie Evans. We are waiting on her transcripts and their scope of work is broader and cheaper than the former vendor.

We have put together a marketing plan for February and we will do one for March. Today Mrs. Louis and I went to Dean Rusk YMCA to sit on a kindergarten panel to talk about our school. 7 parents signed up who wanted additional information. This Saturday we will be at Morehouse Basketball game. We will have a table set up to recruit there. Ms. Louis is reaching out to Day Care centers to see if we can go there and promote the school.

IDEA Funds have been allocated and we were told

@Pardes is the 10,400 a part of the Marketing Budget. Can you give some additional information on IDEA. This money is allocated for our students with disabilities. We would like to purchase some hand held devices to help children manuevering with some of the reading

Money can only be used to support our special education population.

Lilly informed the board that this money is supplemental. We do get money through FTE dollars and this IDEA funds will help to supplement the budget. We need to look at our budget to see if we can use some of the costs that we have already spent to help to offset some costs that we have already spent. I know that we have hired a paraprofessional

Toi asked if we can use the money for the Para if she doesn't just support special education students. No we can use a percentage of her time by using time and attendance logs to document her training. Toi invited Lilly to join the planned conference call with the IDEA specialist this Thursday.

@Eboni Chillis the teachers who are concerned about the data report. Please send some dates that you are available so that we can have a discussion. The iReady data is often and it is what it is and we want to. We encourage you to go ahead and speak to your staff about data and what your expectations.

Toi we are aware of the data and are open to instruction and any support that we are given. I think it might have something to do with their perception and what they are being told. I invite you all to come up to the school and speak to the teachers

@Daniel McKayhan if you can provide a chart or graph to show us from month to month or how ever often you do the testing so we can see the time line of when the gains are being made. We would like a visual presentation so that we can see.

@Karen Womack please refrain from putting the students names in the Board Report in the future and also we cannot mention students by name in the meeting ither. Can you also tell us how many students are on grade level.
