Beats X Books Presentation

Beats x Books is a 501c3 nonprofit organization focused on providing students with educational tools, one-of-a-kind experiences, and professional grooming to prepare them for a successful career in the entertainment industry.

Beats X Books has currently partnered with SLAM Atlanta this current school year. Our school Counselor, Ms. Jasmine Ferguson introduced them to SLAM Atlanta in the fall of 2021 and in December they provided an amazing Holiday experience for several of our students and family. We have been meeting with them since then to see how we can bring this experience to SLAM Atlanta in a more expanded capacity.

This partnership will help us to expand on the Arts part of the SLAM model.

Superintendent's Update

I am currently LKES and TYKES certified. Tom Fowler came a few weeks ago to do some of the walkthroughs with our teachers.s. Tomorrow I will continue to do more formal evaluations and then meet with Tom to get everything in the session.

Data was shared on the final iReady Presentation and where the students are now at the end of the year.

@Charles Jones as far as growth is concerned will we have a more intense intervention professional development with the teachers to help address the challenges that the data is showing? We sent weekly emails out to teachers to give them targeted feedback. We would like to continue doing this for the upcoming school year if the Board agrees that they would like for us.

@Karen Womack do we have the non academic factors for professional development as well. Like Classroom management issues. I would like to see the whole teacher responsibilities be addressed.

@Mamie Grimes teachers were encouraged by the support that you guys provided. Thank you so much for all your hard work.

Principal Search

Millie and I have had preliminary interviews with the candidates, vetted background checks, checked ethics. 3 candidates confirmed for Thursday, May 18 at 5pm. All candidates are Georgia based and experienced in education.

2022 - 2023 Board Member Elections and Board Retreat discussion

We do not have a consensus for the Board Retreat, either June 4-5 or 11&12th of June had the most votes. Angelia will send out another message with additional dates. June 4-5 works for the majority. So let's do June 4-5th. Everyone will make arrangements to make this happen.

If for some reason we can't make this happen we will regroup and move forward

SLAM Foundation Update

SLAM has been accredited and scored 368 which is way above the norms. SLAM Atlanta is officially accredited under Cognia. We have an annual school improvement plan and we are looking forward to working with the new leader with the CLIP. We will also implement stakeholder surveys, student surveys, principal surveys, staff surveys, service provider and Board Survey. This data will be analyzed to see where improvements are needed. We will also look at doing a student Boot Camp over the summer. The Foundation will also donate the uniform shirts Congratulations to Ms. Howell, Mr. Lee and Ms. Walker on the job that you all are doing. All the feedback that we have received from visitors has been very, very positive. We also sent you all the new Marketing Video that was complied in the Summer is on your website for all to see and view. Ms. Howell will show it later during the meeting.

Academica Update

Permits have been approved for the playground. Should be built by the end of June and it looks like things are progressing as planned. The property next door that is being developed cut the waterline a few times which caused disruption to the school. There was also a dispute of where the property lines are. We did clarify this on today. Our property line cuts right through the light poles. We are hoping that that is not an issue. The other issue is our water line does cut through their property. We are hoping that this is not going to be an issued. There is a possibility that we might have to move the water line. I have Mr. Mapp looking into what it would take to accomplish this. We might have to recut the parking lot in order to move the water line and reconnect. We should have clarity next week on the waterline situation.
