The Foundation did the accreditation training today with all of the schools. The call went very well. The staff has been prepped for the meetings that will take place next week. They know what to expect. The Foundation confirms that they approved $150,000 to support the school.
February 9, 2022 In Person Governance Training - UGA. I have already made arrangements for board members who are attending and I have forwarded your hotel confirmations to you and registered you with the SCSC so you are all set.
@Pardes Sulaiman they added another virtual offering at the last minute.
Play ground update by Danny Diaz - We had to go back and forth with the archtech. Final plans have been sent to Level Construction and they submitted the permit today. Phase 1 is the basketball court and fencing. The playgroud company says that the equipment will arrive in April. That would be great if it does because perhaps we can arrange a ribbon cutting in May. That would be a great marketing plan to support enrollment.
Last Saturday we canvased all of the apartments on the list and the Hampton Park subdivision with door hangers marketing the school for open enrollment now. We have received some hits from that. Mr. Lee we opened up additional spots for extra seats that we have. The Lottery is already open for next year and for this year. We will run concurrent lotteries.
We have our Black History Program scheduled for Friday, February 25. On March 19 we will do the car caravan. We will have a Beats and Books conference here the day after the carvavan.
I spoke to Ms. Shelly Baker from Greenbria Mall and we have been cleared to put the new updated banner in the Mall Food Court. We ordered additional Marketing Flyers. We are scheduled to do 3 Pre-K transition meeting in mid February. Next year we are projecting to have 2-kindergarten classes with 18 students each.
@Charles Jones how was parent particpation during the data chats. KAaddison it think it was good. We had about 70% participation.
We had coaches from Miami zooming in with the teachers on the 17 and 24. @Karen Womack so the parents received the iReady data from the teachers? @Kaddion yes they were supposed to share the iReady data, running records. @Karen Womack what are our parents expected to do with the data once it is sent home? Are teachers explaining to them what is on the report? @keesa Addison, If the parents ask the teachers, Most teachers are telling parents to make sure that the children read every night. It is my preface not to put a whole lot on parents especially since we have an extended school day. Both Lilly and I agree that giving students a lot of homework after having a long day is unreasonable. I know that they are providing strategies to parents on how to help their children at home with home work. what does face to face data chats look like? KAddison giving them their running records. So the push right now literacy and gains? Addison, yes it is. It is going to produce gains and comprehension @Charles Jones do we have any idea how the students are going to perfom on the milestone? if we don't have any formative assessment data aligned to the standard. It would be nice to hav an that will tie to the milestone test. According to CCRPI data we need to know if our students are going to perform better than they did on CCRPI in 2019. @Altrenesha Ervin how are we helping students that are home with COVID prepare for the milestone. Are we making phone calls or do home visits because that could be a welfare issue. @Altrenesha Ervin how is attendance? Kaddison, attendance is pretty poor. @Altrenesha do we know why there are so many attendance issues? what happens when a student come back to school if they are truant or if they are sick Kaddison they have their laptops. @Ervin we need to do something to be intentional about pushing gains even if they are at home.. @Karen Womack has there been any professional development for Slamifying lessons. @Karen Womack Has there been any PD on how to SLAMIFY? Addison, in October we did a professional development to determine what SLAMIFYING looks like for us? Adding an element of competition, adding Art. @Karen Womack How do we track this? @KAddison, we would have to track through classroom observations. @Karen Womack and how often are classroom observations being done? KAddison, not as much as I would like. I see a lot more since we are in this building than when we were at the old location. It has not been a priority. How many teachers are their currently? 8 teachers and all but 1 are new to SLAM and 5 out of the 8 are new to teaching. @Charles Jones Where are we as far as teacher certification? Do we have anthing in place to support them with Certification. KAddison, i started out offering support on Saturday morning until I found out that Khan Academy offers this for free. We have 1 teacher who has gotten her provisional and another one that is on track to. We are moving but I think a lot of it has to do with the bonus factor. We have a bonus built in the budget for certification. What is the amount of the budget $7,000. @Karen Womack How did you come up with that number? KAddison It makes sense because it makes us competitive with APS. @Karen Womack I would like to ask this question, are we still accepting students this school year? @KAddison, yes we are. @Karen Womack then we have to change or policy becasuse we have a policy that says that we will no longer accept new students after a certain time in the year. I want to make sure that we revisit this policy and change it to say that we can keep accepting students all year. In Lotterease, we are going to 7th grade next year and it is not open right now for 7th grade so we need to add that to Lotterease. Karen Womack I want to point out the need that you put in the Principal's report the need for the Board to donate money for the internal account. I also want to know if you are open to accepting inkind donations. We have done this in the past with teacher appreciation. We can also sponsor breakfasts or help with other needs as well as contribute money. @alterenesh I have personally set up reoccurring donations? Ms Addison checked and verified that the donations had been received.
Mr.Tamargo shared updated student growth data with the Board.s
The Board had the following questions regarding the data that was shared. @Charles Jones How do we know that he kids are acquiring the skills to mastery of the milestones test. The information shared is really vague and doesn't appear to be tied to Georgia Standards.
@Alex Tamargo - No the report doesnt do that but I can walk you through that report. Ms.Addison should be explaining the lesson plans. @Charles Jones the remediation takes place in the software? The software and the teacher. THis is what happens when Magee and Jackson pull out and work with small groups. @Charles Jones when are they reassessed for masteryto ensure that they actual acquire mastery? @Tamargo Monthly learning gains are checked. Lessons are changed weekly. Jones is iReady data to determine mastery. Tamargo, no we use this throughout our network. Addison, we use Reflex Math and other curriculum, we are not looking for mastery at this time because we have a number of kids below mastery. We are looking mostly for learning gains. We are on an accelerated schedule. before Mr. Tamargo leaves I would like to get his thoughts and opinions on why we received so many findings this year on the SCSC monitoring visit. @Alex Tamargo, we received the report and are going to go through it to find out what the errors are and then address them. @Karen Womack is iReady being used as the core curriculum due to the acceleration? Yes we are using iReady as the core curriculum right now for reading and math. Are we shifting to it permanently? Alex, no we are using it util May. We will also add Coach Digital from School Speciality. Going forward when when we share data, it will be from iReady and only iReady. @Charles Jones Mr. Tamargo can you provide me with the baseline data to show us where each child started out compared to where they are now and actually how much growth has actually happened? Mr. Tamargo, yes I will get that information to you.
Highlights
$38,102.47 - From Building Hope
$174,929.36 - From SLAM Foundation (Reclassified from RC Grant to Loan at year end)
$(91.43) – Teacher Retirement Payable
Ana, I have spoke to the SLAM Foundation and they are willing to provide a temporary loan in the amount of $150,000 until the Federal Funds are received. We will get the board the promissory note so that it can be ratified. That will be at 0% interest.
@Pardes Sulaiman Alina do you mind going into the numbers as to what is in the Operations Reserve account and why we need the loan as well as the amounts that we are forecast in FTE due to the impact from the drop in enrollment.
Alina Chester yes it it looks like we are going to be funded for 87 students for the initial enrollment allocation but the way things work in Georgia we got funded for 101 students. After speaking to Ms. Addison it looks like we will be funded for 76 students for FTE but 81 FTE's. There was a big drop in students from October to March. This causes a drop in funding of $294,000 drop in revenue. Unless we get enrollment up by 90 students prior to the cut off of the March FTE we will have a cash deficient of $451,000 projected. $100,000 will be the deficiet even if we receive all of the Federal Grant funds and use the reserve. We have $350,000 in reserves due to the PPE loan being forgiven but currently our deficit will exceed the reserves by $130,000.
@Pardes Sulaiman Ana, I have questions from the income statement it shows that we have energy expense. Brittany is on the line she could shed some light on what might be going on. Brittany, yes I recently put the bill on auto pay so that should help to clear that up. @Pardes Sulaiman can we accure for this expense going forward because this is a pretty hefty expense. @Pardes Sulaiman What is Triump Learning? Ana that would be instructional materials. What is Georgia Coach Digi? KAddison this is instructional Coach

Charter Renewal is coming and we wanted to discuss putting together a renewal committee and understand what we are going to have to prepare. Ms Addison sent some information to the Board informing them that GCSA helps with Charter Renewal. Its not free but they do offer assistance to schools. Everyone needs to familarize themselves with the process because it is a hug task. November is when the process starts. Hopefully by the next Board meeting we can tackle the process.
Update on specific marketing and recruitment activities to address the under enrollment challenge for the FY21-22 school year as well as activities in place for the FY22-23 school year. Door hangers were placed in subdivisions and apartments, 3 Pre-K transition meetings are planned, Upcoming NPU meeting, Academica enrolled SLAM Atlanta into a FB parent group, parents are asking to take flyers and distribute them among their circles. Mr. Pardes has agreed to market every Saturday. We need to reach out to the Kroger across the street to see if they will allow us to hand out flyers there or hold up a sign to generate conversations about the school. Wee need to get about 2,500 flyers out in hopes of getting about 1% participation. Altrenesah what are your thoughts about doing a football clinic, drill or anything that will draw students. My husband would be willing to do it on a Monday or Sunday. Perhaps once we get our playground in place maybe we can do a pick up game old verses new. I want to make sure that we make it happen. Danny wanted to know if we can reach out to the YMCA like we did before we opened, we did it at a summer camp that was already being held. Shelly from the Mall, her daughter is somebody at the YMCA close by. It would be great to meet with her, sit down and see how we can partner with them since they alreay are serving kids. I am sure that Alex can get a ton of kids to come and help out. Westside Future Fund has been contacted. I think we should offer some kind of incentive for our parents for upcoming events. Like the Black History program, bring a friend. Have them use their social media, we can determine a hashtag that they can use to promote SLAM. If they use the hashtag to support the school we can provide some kind of incentive. We need to look at the enrollment as an opportunity to also engage our current families.
