Discuss a potential charter amendment to allow for virtual education

The lease will end on November 5, 2021.

Change the SCSC Charter Contract to include allowing for Virtual Education in the event that we do not have our CO by the end of the Lease Agreement that we have with Shiloh MB Church.

By: Altrenesha Ervin Seconded by: Pardes Sulaiman

We only have a 60-day lease with the church and in the event that we have not been awarded our CO prior to the end of the lease and need additional time we need to have the option to go virtual until the CO is acquired.  In order to have this option the Board has to agree to amend their Charter contract to request the Commission to allow for virtual education.

School Leader Report

We started the first day of school n Tuesday with 66 students with 40 no show. On today we had 70 students. The team has pulled together very well to create policies and are working together very well as a team. Next week Gkids testing should begin. We might have to request a delay because we want time to call the no shows. iReady testing should also start next week as well so we can start doing our benchmarks. @Karen Womack when will we start back receiving our regular school leader report? @Keesa Addison I can provide whatever data you guys want. @Altrenesha Ervin we haven't received the regular document loaded in the CharterBoard porta for the last two months. That is the document that we are used to seeing. @Addison I really haven't had time to prepare and submit this report over the last two months.

Superintendent's Update

I was in person at SLAM Atlanta a few weeks ago. We also secured one of our interns (Ross) to come and assist Ms. Addison with start of school activities. I know he was very beneficial in assisting with several projects. We have met every single compliance date so far. Looking forward to returning back for a visit and seeing everybody.

Public Comment

Hi my name is Megan Henry. I left my position with DeKalb County Schools and was hired by SLAM Atlanta as the Marketing Teacher and School Secretary. For the most part I have been very flexible with all of the changes; from being on site at the Raddison hotel, at the Greenbriar location and now here at the church. On today I made a request of Ms. Addison for a space for me to pump my breast milk. I have a 4-month old baby girl that I am breastfeeding.

As a mom who breastfeeds when your milk is ready to be expressed you have to stop and pump. After I requested space to do so Ms. Addison then requested that I give her a schedule. That's not something easy to do because when your body is ready to release the milk it will send a signal right then and at that moment you have to go and take care of your business. Not having access to this accommodation is a concern of mine. I am not the only breast feeding mother at SLAM. My request was not unreasonable. All I asked for was a space I didn't specify where. It could be a partition with a small refrigerator to store the milk. I just need a space to handle my business. Thank you for your consideration of my request.
