Ms. Ebony Dames, Kindergargten Teacher
Teaching virtually is very difficult especially since I am teaching the youngest students in the school. I hope that the Board will take in consideration not just the immediate needs but also what is best moving forward. I am worried and concerned about our safety of everyone because I do not want anyone
Holly - Parent and Teacher at SLAM. It is difficult sometimes for her to manueaver through things and also give instruction to the youngest students. I think they student struggle with getting through the different technologies. My daughter had a chance to come to the building thjis week for small group instruction. She sas very excited and wants to come back to the building. From a teacher's perspective I have the oldest students in the building. It is very difficult teaching virtually. I teach the oldest students, 3rd - 5th. I think the way the students moved around the building The students did learn to keep on the mask and the shield as the day went forward. I would ask that the Board consider having small groups in the building and take into consideration of the students who are on a lower grade level, EIP and IEP.
Wanted to bring everyone up to date regarding datea
3 SLAM schools are fully open in the SLAM network
Tampa, Apollo, are all on Hybrid models and Oscela opened at 100% face to face. These are most similar to SLAM Atlanta. The schools are social distancing 3 feet instead of 6-feet apart because that is what that particular county chose to implement. They have 0% COVID-19 cases. BOCA opens Monday they will go with a M-Thursday schedule so that they can do a deep cleaning every Friday. Nevada will open on Monday. We had a meeting on Wednesday where we brought all of the SLAM schools together to talk about the good, bad and ugly of it all. I taught in Tampa for a few days to fill in due to a teacher being out. I can vouch that teaching during this time it very difficult.
Our typical classroom is seating anywhere from 15-20 students. Our Atlanta school in Kindergarten has 18 students and 1 student has chosen to stay Viritual. 1 grade has 16 students with 2 chosen to stay virtual
@Pardes Sulaiman - thank the teachers for all that you do. I know how it is when I see my siblings go through Virtual learning. I think it is a great idea to have deep cleaning on Friday's. I am OK with the 1st Option.
Ms. Pierce, we have our cleaning staff cleaning every hour high touch surfaces. All door knobs, any high touch surfaces and we do also have them come back in at the end of the day and cleaning as well.
@Karen Womack , I think we have to have a plan in place to address the students who are on Virtual and in person sot hat we do not neglect either group. If we can make sure that we ensure that all students will be
When will we start? Kelly Pierce, I did order air purifiers with HEPA filters for each classroom as well as the Fellowship Hall. They are not scheduled to come in by Friday, September 18. I would suggest that we not start until the 21st.
@Karen Womack , what about staff members? Do we need to allow for time for them to make arrangements for the children who do not attend SLAM. Another staff member that has a child has opted to take the FFCRA and will not be working during this time. The majority of our staff members have school age children who
@Tiffany Russell , I would recommend waiting until the air purifiers are in before starting small group.
@Altrenesha Ervin , I agree with the start date of September 21 to prepare for the air purifiers come in. If they are not in I recommend that we push back to Monday, September 28.
Monitoring visit is schedule
1 employee that has exercised the FFCA and will be out for 4 months and 1 employee that is on extended leave and we are all hand on deck.
Parent Engagement - we are proposing to do a Drive In Movie and hope to use this as our Annual Title I Meeting. We are still putting together all the details and securing Security Officers since we will be outside. I have been accessing the kindergartners this week and feel the pressure. I thought this would be something nice for parents. We have parent data chats on Friday. We have an All Pro Dad from a former program who wants to start this up at SLAM Atlanta and I am very excited about this opportunity for our parents.
The small group testing has been successful. Parents have been great in calling to let me know when they children are not feeling well and their option to keep them home in order to not take any chances. We were also able to pick up the PPE that was given by Governor Kemp. One of the items is an air purifier. We raised $2,128 from Give 28 Day. ^ students with IEP's 4 with
@Karen Womack I called 9 of the parents on the list that you gave me to call and there was one parent who is attending Georgia Cyber Academy right now but she is concerned about her child being in the building and having social distance. Another parent is still very intersted but wants someone to call her back and another parent has two children but needs some additional informatiomn. Karen will write up the information and send it to her so that she can follow-up.
The Board agreed to proceed with the Proposed FY21 Budget Hearing Dates of September 17 and September 24 at 6:00 PM. Angelia will send the notification to the Legal Organ on tomorrow.
Pardes said that a meeting is being scheduled with the church to discuss a multiple lease and hope to get on the Pastor's calendar. We will continue to look for additional permanent facilities but for now we need to move forward in talking to the Pastor.
