School Leader Report

We are now on week 3 of the online teaching and learning. Each student that is following the calendar is receiving a full week of instruction in the same way they would if they were at school.

IT, Mr. Rob Lee is doing a great job working with the parents and students. Our hourly employee's has been a hot topic down at the Commission and many schools are discussing cutting employee's and I am happy to say that I am not cutting anyone because we have a budget that was approved through the end of the year.

@Pardes Sulaiman wants to know what is going to happen in the State with the cancellation of school as far as retention or promotion for students. @Kelly said that the have cancelled all the attendance requirements and all the normal requirements. SLAM will continue to teach and move forward as normal and promotion and retentions will happen as normal.

Danny Diaz informed us that Districts across the country were not ready for this issue and that Academica supported schools were ready for the online learning and we are ahead of the game and our children are going to be ahead and achieve great results.

Kelly informed the Board that teacher morale seem to be up and that they feel supported and apart of something special.

Growth monitoring check was administered through iReady to measure how the virtual instruction is really going. Everything has been suspended through the rest of the year. Page engagement has been the best since I started, they are engaged, committed and present. Our counselor is calling a minimum of 8 students a day just to check in and make connection and to say hi. Danny is going to make connection with the Ace Foundation for the two families that don't have internet. The Ace Foundation will pay for the internet so that there are no excuses as to why they are not connect and in virtual class.

Lottery numbers: We need to fill 28 more seats to fill. Mr. Lee has called every single family that has applied to give instructions on how to enroll and provide any additional information needed.

Two staff members will not return next year.

Danny offered some suggestions that we are doing in some of the other states to create awareness about the school. Specific for the Pre school students. Read a book with Kelly or another staff member a couple of times a week and you post it on Youtube and have reading time with Pre-K.

The Budget hearing meeting for next year should be on schedule for the May meeting.

Facilities Update

One property is on the radar and @Pardes Sulaiman will go and take a look at the property on next week.

Also, we will look into a couple of the other church properties. We need to add the Virtual viewing options since Academica is not approved to travel. The market is most likely going to look better prior to the pandemic.
