Welcome and Call to Order

The meeting will be called to the order by the Board Chair at 6:33 pm

Approval of Agenda

So that there is agreement between board members on the agenda, and the amount of time spent on the meeting, the board shall vote to approve an agenda for the meeting. To the best of its ability, it will follow that agenda, and allow for the chair to move the board through the agenda as specified.

Public Comment

Does the school plan to add a foreign language

Ms. Anequa Garmon, one of SLAM parents wanted to know if at any time will SLAM offer a foreign language to the students. She also wanted to know what the Board plans to do with the budget surplus that appears on the (2019-2020) approved school budget.

Comprehensive Superintendent's Report

IM International is the Counseling company that will be working with students with behavioral issues. They are also planning to offer programs for parents who need additional support.


Partnership opportunities are being sought to implement PBIS.

There is 1 open position for a Security Officer that has been posted on INDEED


Clearance Certificates have been applied for all teachers . One teacher is working with the PSC to obtain a K-12 Special Education Certificate


Currently have 111 students enrolled

The window for FTE is officially opened. FTE Team consists of, Mr. Lee, Mr. Wynn and Ms. Louizi.


1,875.45 is the balance in the Internal Account

The CLIP has been submitted and is under review by the State Department for approval.

The S-CLIP for the Title I School Wide plan has been updated to include the changes with SLAM going from a targeted assistance school to a full Schoolwide school.


Parent University has began and was rolled out on August 31. Coffee with the Principal on August 29 was well attended as well.


A Sunshine Committee has been created for Teachers

Friday is Jean Day for teachers

A Coffee Bar has been set up for teachers and we are also providing snacks for all the teachers


Community Partners in Education

Morehouse and Spelman Bonner Scholars will start back with us soon.


SLAM Foundation conducted their first monitoring visit the week of August 26, 2019 and their feedback was very positive.

SLAM Foundation Update

Updates from the SLAM Foundation

  • Discussion of Culture Club opportunity through Dibia Dream.


Millie Sanchez - Congratulations on a successful start to the school year

We are looking to partner with this particular partner. This gentlemen is based out of Miami, Florida and Texas. This is STEM education, Sports, Financial Awareness and Wellness

They provide training for the teachers, food for snacks, curriculum

They really want to do something in Atlanta

The company would also look at securing grants to fund the program

The program would be free to all the students

To fund the program for 5 days a week for all the students it would cost about $100,000 a year. If the Board wanted to move forward the SLAM Foundation is committed to helping secure the funding needed to finance a very robust program for SLAM students. The SLAM Foundation is committed to rolling this program out nationwide to all of SLAM students.

Academica Update

Updates from the Employer Service Provider

  • Facility Update

Cast a pretty wide net to look for facilities. The only thing that has really come to fruition is the opportunity at the Met. Today we went to the facility to see it and also spoke to the developers to learn their overall vision.


We are looking to take on two of the sections that add up to over 70,000 square Feet. The Board is invited to set a date to go as a group to tour the space.


Seeking approval from the Board to have an architect tour the facility and provide additional information so that we can put together a real budget and see what it would cost to bring this to fruition.

Review process for emergency incident reporting

It really depends on the emergency

The Board Chair is notified and she contacts the rest of the Board

If it is Security emergency Ms. Louizi contacts Mr. Willie Taigle. The National Security Director for all of the Academica supported schools.

If the emergency is Instructional in nature Ms. Louizi contacts Kelly and Angelia and they will contact the appropriate resource at Academica who can assist with the issue
