Development Action Items

Beta Club is planning to go on a trip to the Beta Club Convention December 3-7, 2025, and would like permission to engage in a popcorn fundraiser (Double Good) to raise funds to offset the cost of the trip for the parents. The total cost per student is $250. Discussion regarding chaperone support.

Dr. Bostic just received information this week on a potential music grant that could net up to $10k for the music program. Another local charter school was just awarded the grant. Dr. Cooper discussed several grants.

  • The GaDoE 21st Century Community Learning Center Grant. The application is due by January 30, 2025 and could net between $5k and $350k per year for up to 5 years. This grant is for entities that work with high poverty and/or low performing schools. This grant focuses on how to provide academic enrichment opportunities during non-school hours. This grant supports opportunities to work with different organizations, provide tutorial, can be used to complement a regular academic program, to complement literacy programs for families (i.e., GED programs, etc.). This initiative focuses on supporting the entire community and providing wrap around services (i.e., a community learning center). Ms. Rodgers asked if DPA is eligible for the grant since DPA is a partner with Peace Baptist Church for the same grant. Dr. Cooper indicated that she would follow up to see if DPA is still eligible to apply for the grant and utilize DPAs partnership with MICO University, but she will check with her resource and let the committee know the outcome. Dr. Bostic asked if this grant would be effected if grant budget cuts occur within U.S. Department of Education. Dr. Cooper stated that some other grants could be effected but that since this is a state grant, the funding should not be effected.
  • Gear Up Grant - this grant is for first generation students to go to college. It requires that the applicant have a university partnership and a partnership with a high school. This grant focuses on students in 6-12 grades. The grant covers costs for administration, coaches, tutoring, etc. This is a $5-10M grant over a 5 year period. Specific information will be available in January. This is a federal grant.
  • Innovative Education Grant by the Georgia Foundation of Public Education. The website for more information is gfpe.org. This is done in collaboration with Workforce Development. This is an initiative to pay for salaries, professional development, strategic planning, etc. for Charter school leaders, coaches, etc. to address post-pandemic issues. This could fund the project to get new teachers hired and trained. Starts with a Letter of Interest. Grant provides $25-50K per year. This is an initiative could be supported with the MICO University partnership.

Homecoming - Plan is not ready to present.

Golf Tournament - Dr. Merritt will start doing the research to prepare for the Golf Tournament.
