The meeting will be called to order by the committee chair at 10:00 AM

Agenda

Athletics- Jerseys - Welcome Mr. Newell to the Development Committee. Mr. Newell apprised the committee that DPA needs to purchase standard basketball jerseys for the boys and girls basketball teams. The soccer uniform will cost $55-$60 per uniform. There is a need to reschedule a football game. The committee requested that October 5 not be used to reschedule since that would conflict with the Fall Festival. Discussion regarding volleyball and football scheduling.


Fundraisers

Family Portrait This is an opportunity for DPA scholars and staff to take portraits with their families. A percentage of the cost for the portraits will be recouped by DPA. Mr. Dennis stated that this could be a great earning activity. He mentioned that portraits are a very popular gift for Christmas and other holidays.


Homecoming Dance – Ms. Rodgers will reach out to Dr. Johnson to determine what Homecoming activities are being planned. Discussion regarding Mr. And Ms. DPA and the Homecoming Court. Funds would be collected by the parent and the parent would make the cashless payment.


Mother/Son Dance – Ms. Rodgers will follow-up with Ms. Reid to determine if this activity will occur this year and, if so, when it will take place.


DPA Spirit wear – Ms. Rodgers will follow-up with Ms. Reid regarding Spirit Wear and DPAs partnership with Smart Tees. This fundraiser has taken place in previous years. Funds were allocated for the Athletic Department.


Golf Tournament -Dr. Bostic Panola Mountain will host the golf tournament. Dr. Merritt will provide the details. A date must be determined for this event.


School-wide Gala – Ms. Young and Dr. Bostic will get more details regarding the possibility of a School-wide Gala being held at the Georgia Aquarium.


Other fundraisers discussed were car wash (possible on the upcoming Professional Development Day), Fun Run on the back field, Read-a-thon, Cookie Dough sales, and Scratch-offs, Afternoon Candy/Snacks Sales.. Since most students would spend small dollar amounts to purchase candy/snacks. Dr. Bostic stated that cash could be collected but to set the price at whole dollar amounts only.


Cashless Pay System – DPA now has a cashless pay system. Ms. Traquita Lee, Interim CFO, will  facilitate the process of ensuring that the system is setup to receive funds for field trips, fundraisers, events and activities.


MICO – Housing –Ms. Young suggested that since Georgia State is on the MARTA bus line, there may be an opportunity to partner with GSU to provide housing for the MICO-DPA Program participants. Dr. Bostic will notify Dr. Cooper to discuss this option with the MICO partners and GSU.


Upcoming PD Day - Discussion regarding the possibility of having a car wash during the Professional Development Day.


Fall Festival - Ms. Young is ordering supplies for the Scary House that can be used this year and for future events. Discussion regarding payment for entry and payment for activities. Discussion regarding specific activities and the availability of committee members to assist.


Gavel Club (Youth Toastmasters) – Ms. Rodgers will follow-up with our community partner, Peace Baptist Church, regarding the possibility of initiating a Gavel Club for DPA scholars.

 

Snacks for Athletes – Ms. Rodgers reached out to Peace Baptist Church as they previously provided snacks for our athletes on game day. Peace has not been receiving the sandwiches and snacks that they used to receive weekly from the company that provided them.
