School Leader Report

Malcolm reported on behalf of Dr. Merritt that the school has an opportunity to come off the TSI list in December based on recent GMAS scores, and mentioned that Dr. Neely will conduct a special education audit over two days to align with charter renewal. The school currently has 570 students enrolled for the upcoming year and is presenting board action forms, with additional positions still to be filled, including a needed special education lead teacher position.

Board Actions

The committee discussed and approved three new teacher hires: Dr. Maria Byrd as a PEC teacher, Metala Lewis as a second grade teacher, and Kelon Blackshear as a seventh grade ELA teacher. Principal Brown reported that the school currently has 570 students enrolled for the upcoming year and is actively recruiting for several remaining positions including a special education teacher, two positions in fifth grade (ELA and math), one position in first grade, and one ABC position. The committee also approved four custodial and IT support positions: Michael Forbes as full-time custodian, Saquon Smith as part-time evening custodian, Dedriana Mims as part-time custodian, and Ashley Fields as IT Support Specialist. Mr. Dennis reported that they are continuing the search for a nurse position using their candidate matrix and will pursue additional candidates until someone is hired, with a contractor as a backup option if needed before school.
