Closing 2019-20

Results of Surveys - Chris Estes gave results of the Stakeholders surveys

Date for School Ending - 116 responded. That accounts for approximately 1/3 of the household population. 99% indicated their preference for the date for school closing for 2020 would be May 15th, 2020. The survey was sent out via Class Dojo. The committee recommends that we close on May 15th, no later than May 22nd. Teachers need time to plan for Virtual Summer School. Go Virtual for June 1st - 19th.

Participation Rate - our last survey shows that participation by students continues to decline as weeks go on.

Number of students needing computers NOW! - Survey results show that majority of students have a computer in the home. We presently have 120 Chromebooks in the building. We will propose ordering 250 additional Chromebooks which can be issued to students. Cost is approximately $75,000. We will begin the distribution of computers to those students who do not have a computer in the home.

Post Planning for 2020 - teachers will be scheduled on a staggered basis for cleaning the classrooms. Parents will be given scheduled times to return materials to school and/or they may pick up any personal items that were left in the building.

Summer School

Teachers Survey - 18 teachers indicated their desire to teach Virtual summer school.

Virtual vs Face-to-Face - Virtual Summer school will begin June 1st if we close on May 15th, June 8th if we close on May 22nd. The schedule will include teachers giving online instruction in reading and math for 3 hours Monday - Wednesday. Conferencing and planning on Thursdays. The duration is 3 weeks.

Focus on 2020-21

Plan for start of new school year - we will take a look at beginning our plan for next school year during the post planning days, May 18 - 29.

Strategic Planning - the academic committee will critique our section and discuss updates.
