PUBLIC COMMENT EXPECTATIONS

Requests for public comment will be made prior to every vote taken. Members of the public are invited to sign up to speak for up to two minutes and are required to keep their comments limited and relevant to the agenda item the board is voting on.


The meeting moderator will announce the speaker at the appropriate time, speaker is to self-identify with the “raise hand” feature at the bottom of the web page, and meeting moderator will unmute audio. The speaker should state their name and address for the record, public comments are limited to two minutes, per policy. CALL THE MEETING TO ORDER, YVETTE JONES

APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF MARCH 10th, 2021, YVETTE JONES

Approve the minutes as submitted

REPORT OF THE GOVERNANCE COMMITTEE, YVETTE JONES

Approve the amendment of the Bricolage Bylaws to add one additional board director who shall be a parent or guardian of a current Bricolage Academy student.

Yvette Jones lead the discussion on adding an additional parent to the Board of Directors. Randy Philipson asked if the parents would represent lower and upper schools. Yvette Jones replied that Tania Castellanos would comment on that. 


Tania thanked the Board for voting to approve the motion. She stated that it is very important for the parents to be involved and have a parent voice.  

Roby Chavez agreed on the importance. Mr. Chavez asked that the process for selection be written into the By-Laws. 

Deb Elam commented that By-Laws at the Board level should be broad and fluid and confirmed that the interpretation of the wording, is that the Board will select the new members from the slate provided to the Board by the BCA. 

BOARD CHAIR'S REPORT, YVETTE JONES

  • Leadership Transition
  • Yvette Jones spoke on the resignation of Troave' Profice and wished her well.



  • School Vote on Unionization on May 28th
  • Yvette Jones lead the discussion on the upcoming vote. The Board's approach was a measured approach and now the matter will be decided by the teachers. She encouraged them to vote.


Public Comments:

  • Harry Alper (Teacher at Bricolage) - voting Union Yes
  • Tania Castellanos - speaking as a parent and the incoming BCS President. She has long supported the Union. She spoke to the teacher turnover and the resignation of the CEO.
  • Justin Smith (Workshop Teacher) - voting Union Yes. Teachers need a Voice
  • Brent Rhodes (Teacher at Bricolage) - voting Union Yes - seeks equity through the Union
  • Brittany Scofield (Teacher at Bricolage) - voting Union Yes - seeking equity and democracy at Bricolage.





SCHOOL REPORT, ANTIGUA WILBERN

Anitgua Wilbern began in 2017 and spoke to her commitment to the school, faculty, students, and community at large. She spoke to the collaboration between all parties. She looks forward to the upcoming school year and is honored to lead this school. It's a great day to be a Bricolage Trojan.

EXECUTIVE SESSION, YVETTE JONES

Discuss the appointment of and contract with interim CEO and Principal

Motion to move into executive session

Public Comment: Roby Chavez stated that many stakeholders are curious about the events surrounding the departure of Troave' Profice. 


Yvette Jones replied that Ms. Profice asked to take a personal leave.

Motion to appoint Antigua Wilbern as the Interim CEO for the 2021-2022 School Year

Comments:


Board Member - Deb Elam - She is thrilled that Antigua Wilbern is being asked to be the interim CEO. As a Board Member, she spoke on the union vote and stated that she hoped that Ms. Wilbern would be afforded the space to lead unincumbered. 

Board Member - Norman Barnum - he was asked to lead the Strategic Plan and seconds Deb Elam's thoughts on allowing Antigua Wilbern to lead 

Board Member - Annie Philips - supported both Ms. Elam and Mr. Barnum's thoughts. 

Tania Castellanos - Replied to the support of the phrase unincumbered to mean anti-union. 

Brittany Scofield - very excited to work with Ms. Wilbern. 

Roby Chavez - Very supportive of Ms. Wilbern. Would like her to immediately get the support she needs to run the school.
